Sept. 27: Salt and Peace?

Dr. Steve Ayers will deliver the message “Salt or Peace?” with New Testament scriptures from Mark 9:38-50. Judy Jones is the Deacon of the Week. She will read the Old Testament scripture Numbers 11:4-6, 10-16, 24-29  and lead the morning prayer. The Sanctuary Choir will sing the morning anthem Oh That I Had a Thousand Voices to. Donna Duncan will lead Children’s Time.

Coming up

McGill Baptist is hosting a Community Blood Drive Monday, Sept. 28, from 4-7 p.m. Be sure and bring a photo ID and drink plenty of water.

The Children’s Council will meet on Wednesday 6:00 p.m.

Marys and Marthas Ministry will meet on Oct. 8 at 6:30 p.m. for a pot lunch supper and fellowship.

The CROP Walk is Sunday, Oct. 18, at 2 p.m. at Forest Hill Methodist Church in Concord. Donor packets will be available in the back of the worship hall. If you cannot walk please find someone that you can sponsor.

Nursery volunteers needed

Sept. 13: Words Matter

Dr. Steve Ayers will deliver the message “Words Matter” with New Testament scriptures coming from James 3:1-12. Meredith Farrell is the Deacon of the Week. She will read the Old Testament scripture from Isaiah 50:4-9a and lead the morning prayer. The Rev. Paul Haywood will lead Children’s Time. The Sanctuary Choir will perform the morning anthem “He Leadth Me.”

Sunday Youth Schedule

The youth start back on their Sunday night schedule tonight.  The schedule is handbells at 5:30; supper at 6:15; and youth gathering from 6:45-7:45.

Yard sale is September 19

If you have items you need to donate please wait until Wednesday through Friday of this week and bring them into the sanctuary since the trailer is almost full. Volunteers are needed to unload the trailer on Wednesday before the yard sale, to sort and price donations and work Saturday. See Bruce or Maria Arrowood if you can help.

Congregational meeting

A congregational meeting will be next Sunday, Sept. 20, during the Sunday School time at 9:30.

Youth Council meeting

The Youth Council will meet Sunday, September 20, at 4:30 pm.

Feeding Cabarrus Children

Feeding Cabarrus Children will be having a pancake breakfast at Applebee’s in Concord on Saturday, Sept. 19, from 7:30-10 a.m. to raise funds to help the Cabarrus County Backpack Coalition fight hunger in our school and county. Cost is $7 per person. See Phil Herndon for tickets or you can purchase tickets at the door. If you cannot come and would rather make a contribution please send it to: Feeding Cabarrus Children, P.O. Mobile Mammography Unit

The CMC Northeast Mobile Mammography Unit will be at McGill on Sept. 24 from 8:30 until 3:30. To make an appointment, please call 704-403-1729. Financial assistance is available.

Back to School mission project

McGill and other churches partnered for a project at the Logan Multi-Purpose Center to help kids in need with back to school needs. “Soles for Souls” is a CommUNITY Back to School Shoe Distribution project. Partnering with Samaritan’s Feet, the event was Saturday.

July 5: Home Troubles

“Home Troubles” is this week’s sermon by Dr. Steve Ayers at both the 8:30 and 10:45 a.m. services. The new testament scripture comes from Mark 6:1-13.

Deacon of the Week

The Rev. Jackie Pace is the deacon of the week. She will read the Old Testament lesson from Psalm 48 and lead the morning prayer during the 10:45 service.

Arkansas Mission needs

The youth need 30 SPF spray sun screen for their Arkansas Mission Trip.  Please keep the group in your prayers. They will leave Friday, July 10th and return the Saturday, July 18th.

Just Older Youth Club (J.O.Y.) meeting

The J.O.Y. Club will meet on Thursday, July 9, at 11 a.m. Guest speaker will be the Rev. Alan Buckner.

‘Soles for Souls’ shoe project

“Soles for Souls” is a CommUNITY Back to School Shoe Distribution project. Partnering with Samaritan’s Feet the event will be held on Saturday, July 15 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at Marvin Caldwell Park.  A sign up sheet is available in the lobby. Please see Dr. Winfrey Whicker with questions.

Chrismon making class

Please speak with Joyce Kluttz or Wanda Ritchie if you are interested in a Chrismon Class at Rufty’s Chrismon Shop in Salisbury. All the Chrismons on our tree at Christmas have been made by our members.

Vacation Bible School

Vaction Bible Sschool is July 19-23. The theme is “Weird Animals-Where Jesus’ Love is One of a Kind!” Volunteers are needed to guide the children from one activity to another. A hot dog supper will be at 6 p.m. on July 23. Clear, clean 2 liter bottles are needed.

Youth Passport trip a big success

The McGill Youth returned from Greensboro College late this week after a full-filled and meaninful week at Passport Camp. The Rev. Paul Haywood led our group.
