Stephen Harrill

A North Carolina native, Stephen Harrill received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Pfeiffer University and a Master of Music degree from The Converse College School of Music, where he graduated with honors. While at Pfeiffer, Mr. Harrill was a member of Concert Choir, Symphonic Choir, and Chamber Singers. At Converse, he appeared in a number of roles with the Converse Opera Workshop and also served as Assistant Director.

Mr. Harrill is a winner of the National Association of Teachers of Singing graduate auditions and has been cited by The North Carolina Federation of Music Clubs for his involvement in music in North Carolina.

Mr. Harrill has appeared as tenor soloist with numerous musical organizations throughout the southeast, including solo performances with the Asheville, Spartanburg, Western Piedmont and Salisbury Symphonies. He appeared as tenor soloist in the American debut of the Jonathan Willcocks oratorio, Great Is the Glory, under the direction of the composer.

During his time at Pfeiffer University, Mr. Harrill has been a driving force in re-capturing the choral sound Pfeiffer has been associated with for generations. Under Mr. Harrill’s direction the Concert Choirs completed highly successful tours of Armenia and London in Spring 2005, New Orleans in 2006, and performances with the philharmonic of North West Florida in 2007. Mr. Harrill has been associate musical director and vocal coach for many of Pfeiffer's music theater performances since 2000. Mr. Harrill directed Pfeiffer's opera workshop's performances of the opera. The Old maid and the Thief in 2008. Mr. Harrill received the Outstanding Teacher Award from Pfeiffer University and the Association for Christian Higher Education in the 2003-2004 school year.

Mr. Harrill is a member of The National Association of Teachers of Singing, The Music Educators National Convention, Phi Kappa Lambda, and The American Choral Directors Association. Mr. Harrill also has over twenty years of church music experience working extensively with choral and handbell groups of all ages. He is currently conductor of the Stanly County Chorale.

In addition to a career in classical singing, Steve Harrill is also an active and very accomplished performer of old-time and bluegrass music. Appearing at such venues as the Old-Time Fiddler's Convention in Galax Virginia and The Bluebird Cafe in Nashville, Tennessee.

Stephen Harrill resides in Salisbury, North Carolina with his wife Robin. He enjoys gardening, golf and all types of music.
