Glenita Riley invites anyone who is interested in learning the basics of playing handbells and reading music to a one-day class on Saturday, August 19, at 10 a.m. in the choir room. Please let her know if you’d like to attend.

Deacon elections

Deacon election will be held at both services on Sunday, August 20. The Deacon Nominating Committee recommends the following: Bruce Arrowood, Mandy Ashley, Keith Fitch, Bryant Frazier, Carolyn Guess, Darryl Jefferson, and Winfry Whicker.

Nursery help needed

The nursery is one of the first places many visitors see. Help us make a good impression by volunteering for one Sunday every other month (or being an alternate). We have a real need for the baby and the toddler rooms for both services.  See Jordan Plemmons for the 8:30 a.m. service or Melinda Wolanin for the 10:45 service.

Dinner at Captain Steve’s

If you are interested in going to Captain Steve’s Seaford on Thursday, August 24, please sign up on sheets in your Sunday School class or see Susan Porter. You can meet at the church at 5 to ride the bus or be at the restaurant at 5:30 to eat.

Charlotte 49ers concessions

The UNCC concessions schedule was posted in the WAY this week. See Jaime Poe if you’d like to help. September 8 is the first date and help is needed.

Today during the offertory there will be a recording of Glenn Hartsell playing “What a Friend We Have in Jesus”. Glenn will be celebrating his 93rd birthday today in heaven.

Arkansas Mission under way

Youth and their chaperones left Friday, July 7, for Arkansas and will return on July 15. Please be in prayer for another successful trip ministering to the youth in this area of poverty.

Gennady & Mina Podgaisky, missionaries from the Ukraine, will deliver the message.  Ginger Zsambeky is the deacon of the week. She will read the Old Testament scripture from Psalm 13 and lead the morning prayer.

Youth and their chaperones are leaving on July 7 for Arkansas and will return on July 15. Please be in prayer for another successful trip ministering to the youth in this area of poverty.

Share the Harvest Farm open house

Share the Harvest Farm will have an open house on Saturday, June 24, from 10 a.m. until noon. Squash is the theme for this year. David Goforth will have a stir fry demonstration at 10:00. Also featured is how easy it is to grill vegetables at 10:30.  Squash pickles will be shared. Free samples will be given.

CALLING ALL COWHANDS!    Mark your calendars for Saturday, June 17th, 10 a.m.-1:00 p.m.    We hope all of our 3 year olds to rising 5th graders will kick off their summer at the McGill Corral.   Music, games, Bible study and FUN await you!    If you are willing to volunteer that day, please see Angie Schmitt or Lauren Simpson. Here are a few items we need for our McGill Corral.   If you can send in any of these supplies we will greatly appreciate it!   Hay bales for decoration, empty soup cans, brown paper lunch bags, brown grocery bags, supplies to make Trail Mix…chex, candy corn, cheerios, honey combs, cocoa puffs, M and M’s, etc.

Please bring sunscreen and beach towels before July 1 for the Arkansas youth trip.

Graduate Sunday

Dr. Steve Ayers’s sermon title today is “Happy Birthday Church!” with scriptures from Psalm 104:24-35b  and Acts 2:1-21. The Rev. Allen Scott is the deacon of the week. He will read the Old Testament scripture and lead the morning prayer. 2017 graduates will be recognized and the annual McGill Scholarships will be presented.
