Arkansas mission trip

Here is the McGill group as they prepared to travel to Helena-West Helena, Arkansas

The youth and their adult leaders left on Friday to go to Helena/West Helena, Arkansas for their annual mission trip. Please pray for them while they minister to these young children and as they travel back home on July 20.

Back to school shoes

The Back to School Shoe Distribution will be on Saturday, August 10, 2019, from 10:00 a.m. until noon.  Please sign up to volunteer at the back table in the sanctuary.  Another way to help is to bring school supplies (by August 4, 2019) that will be used to fill the backpacks given to the children.  School Supply Lists can be picked up from the back table in the sanctuary.  See Donna Duncan with any questions. 

Share the Harvest classes

David Goforth at the Share the Harvest Garden is doing classes at the garden. There are 3 dates left to participate (see the WAY).  They are free and do not require Y membership or volunteer time. Pre-register at https://signup.com/go/fEUHkAZ to ensure enough training materials are on hand. (Supervising adults don’t need to register.) Classes are basic level and best suited for grades 1 through 6 and are not sequential so you may register and attend any or all classes. All ages welcome.

J.O.Y. Club

J.O.Y. Club will meet on Thursday, August 8.

Help with Arkansas mission

You can be a part of the Arkansas Mission Trip by bringing totes, beach towels and spray sunscreen. Please bring your donations by July 7. The Helena-West Helena, Arkansas trip is July 12-20.

Food on the First

Food on the First is July 7. It’s summer and children are out of school. Needed items are cereals and breakfast foods, canned fruits and vegetables, peanut butter and jelly, Spaghetti O’s, soups, and pork and beans. Esther’s Heart collects peanut butter and crackers. The RAIN Closet needs Clorox, laundry detergent and toilet tissue. The PLC is out for the summer.

No J.O.Y. Club meeting in July

J.O.Y. Club will not meet in July. Their next meeting will be Thursday, August 8.

The Piedmont Choral Society is having “All Patriotic Music” on Thursday, June 20, at 7 p.m. at Forest Hill Methodist Church, 265 Union Street N. This is a benefit concert for the Jason Ray Foundation (jasonray.org). Other concerts will be on Friday, June 21, at 7 p.m. and on Sunday, June 23, at 3 p.m. These concerts are free, but an offering will be accepted.

Kitchen renovations

Renovations continue in the kitchen area. Tuesday and Wednesday they will be putting down the tiles for the halls so the kitchen entrance will be closed those 2 days  (6/4 and 6/5).  Plan not to use that entrance until Thursday.

Men’s breakfast

The men will meet at Punchy’s Diner on Thursday, June 6, at 8 a.m.

Deacon nominations

Deacon nominations will be taken today and June 9. Please prayerfully consider six people to become the Deacon Class of 2022. Per our bylaws, no one serving at the present time is eligible for election.

Kitchen renovations

It will soon be time to close the kitchen so the renovation can begin. The contractor and crew should start on April 29. We will use the remainder of the time to completely empty the kitchen. It will not be available for any use now. The renovation should take 60-70 days.

CBF missions

You will meet Felix in the CBF Missions video today. Felix had to flee his home in the Congo during a rebellion. He found asylum in Nigeria and later came to the US through a resettlement program. With CBF Field Personnel Kim and Marc Wyatt, Felix ministers to refugees. He has accepted a mandate from Christ. Listen to what he says about that mandate. Church goal: $3000.00.  Received $1,565.00.

Easter Egg hunt

The children’s Egg Hunt is this afternoon from 2-3:30 for preschoolers through 3rd

grade. Be sure and bring your basket. Crafts will be made and a bouncy house will be enjoyed.

Mission emphasis

In the CBF Global Missions Easter Offering video today you will hear a testimony from BRUCE HOBSON. Bruce struggled with alcoholism and living on the streets of Danville, Virginia. One day, as he says, “I was in the right place at the right time”.  As you watch the video, think about how your gift can continue to minister to Bruce and others as our CBF Personnel share the love of God, introducing people to the Greatest Gift of All, JESUS. Our church’s goal is $3,000.00. We have received $780.00

CBF missions

In the CBF video today, you will meet CINDY, who expresses her gratitude for the ministry of Grace and Main Fellowship in Danville, Virginia. Under the leadership of CBF field personnel, Jessica and Joshua Hearne, Grace and Main Fellowship ministers to people experiencing homelessness, housing insecurity, hunger, poverty, addiction and other injustices. The foundation of their ministry is simple: building relationships and community. The church goal for the CBF Global Missions Easter Offering is $3000.00 and we have received $400.00.
