Aug. 28: Places of Honor

Enterprise Communications

Dr. Steve Ayers will deliver the sermon with scriptures from Jeremiah 2:4-13 and Luke 14:1, 7-14. Jennifer Taylor is the deacon of the week. She will read the Old Testament scripture and lead the morning prayer.

The services will also include the Blessing of the Backpacks before schools start on Monday.

 Deacon Election

Deacon election is today at both services. The Deacon Nominating Committee recommends Maria Arrowood, Chuck Broadway, Tim Pace, Jaime Poe, Phillip Riley, Allen Scott and Ginger Zsambeky. Bryant Frazier is recommended to complete the term of Ronald Barnes and will also serve for a 3 year term.

Wednesday Activities

Wednesday night activities will begin on September 7. A schedule will be printed on the back of the September calendar this week.

 J.O.Y Club

David Goforth will present the J.O.Y. Club program on Thursday, Sept. 8th.  He will bring an update on the garden McGill is supporting.  Come join us for lunch at 11 a.m.

Charlotte 49ers concessions

Jaime Poe is asking for volunteers to work at the UNCC football games this fall. The games in September are on the 10th and17th. Both games start at 6 p.m. The bus will leave the church at 4 p.m. See Jaime if you can help.

Please look in the 2016 church directory and confirm that your name, address, phone number and email address is correct. Also please let the church office know if adult children under your name should be changed to another address.

Aug. 21: Discernment

Youth water and messy games

Rising 6th graders are invited to the youth water and messy games fun this afternoon from 5-7 p.m. Bring old clothes and shoes and a towel as well as a change of clothes and bag to put your wet clothes in. Pizza will be provided.

Christian Olympics

Christian Olympics! You’re always a winner on God’s Team!  VBS will be on August 20 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. for ages 3 through rising 5th graders. Lunch will be served. If you have questions or are interested in volunteering please see Angie Schmitt or Lauren Simpson. Please collect empty paper towel and toilet paper rolls and leave in the basket in the lobby.

 Share the Harvest Okra Cooking/tasting

You are invited to an okra cooking/tasting on Saturday, August 20, at 9 a.m. at the Y garden. If you have never eaten okra this is a great opportunity! The okra will be prepared in several ways. Farm manager David Goforth will be on site to discuss future plans.

We need a few people to volunteer to help in the kitchen with hot dogs once a month or to be willing to be called to help when someone is out. We would like to have people work only once a month and several are working more than that.   Weeks needed are the second, fourth and fifth Friday.

Deacons meeting

The deacons will meet today at 2 p.m.

Ushers meeting

Ushers are asked to meet today at 6 p.m. to review and discuss the duties, responsibilities and safety procedures needed with all services.  This is for all ushers who are serving now or will be serving with the new schedule.

J.O.Y. Meeting

The J.O.Y. Club meets this Thursday at 11 a.m. The Windsong Recorder Consort will be playing folksongs, classical pieces, hymns, patriotic and Revolutionary War selections.  Lunch is provided. Come and enjoy the food and fellowship.

Samaritan’s Feet

Samaritan’s Feet, a shoe distribution for children and youth, will be held on August 13, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. The location will be the Logan Recreation Center in Concord. See Donna Duncan if you have questions.
