Aug. 30: What’s Inside?

Dr. Steve Ayers will deliver the message entitled “What’s Inside?” with the New Testament scripture coming from Mark 7:1-8, 14-15, 21-23. Ronald Barnes is the Deacon of the Week. He will read the Old Testament scripture Song of Solomon 2:8-13  and lead the morning prayer. The Rev. Paul Haywood will lead the Children’s time. The Sanctuary Choir will perform the morning anthem “I Will Arise.”

Women’s group

There is a short meeting for all ladies after both services to obtain names and emails for any who are interested in receiving information and being involved in McGill’s Marys & Marthas  activities.

Upcoming events

The yard sale is Sept. 19.  If you have items you need to donate please wait until Sept. 16-Sept. 18 and bring them into the sanctuary since the trailer is almost full. Volunteers are needed to unload the trailer on Wednesday before the yard sale, to sort and price donations and work Saturday. See Bruce or Maria Arrowood if you can help.

A congregational meeting will be on Sunday, Sept. 20, during the Sunday School time.

The CMC Northeast Mobile Mammography Unit will be at McGill on Sept. 24 from 8:30 until 3:30. To make an appointment, please call 704-403-1729. Financial assistance is available.

Aug. 23: Suit Up!

“Suit Up!” is today’s sermon title. Dr. Steve Ayers delivers the message with the New Testament scriptures coming from Ephesians 6:10-20. The Sanctuary Choir will perform the morning anthem Lord, Be with Us on this Day.

The Deacon of the Week is Jason Ball, who will read the Old Testament scriptures from Psalm 84 and lead the morning prayer. Donna Duncan will lead Children’s Time.

The Call to Worship:

Leader: Jesus said: ‘I am the Bread of Life . . . whoever eats this Bread will always live.’
People: This is a tough teaching, too tough to swallow.
Leader: Jesus said: ‘Whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.’

Sunday School promotion

Next Sunday, August 30, is promotion Sunday and later in the day all rising 6th graders are invited to join the youth for an afternoon of fun on a giant slip-n-slide. Wear clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty and bring a towel and dry clothes. Supper will be provided.

Pick up school supply items to put in your Operation Christmas Child Shoe Box now while they are on sale.

We are collecting school supplies for Communities in Schools. There is a container near the kitchen to leave your donations.

Please see Jaime Poe if you can help with the fall season of football concessions for the Charlotte 49ers. The first home game is Saturday, Sept. 12.

Back to School mission project

McGill and other churches partnered for a project at the Logan Multi-Purpose Center to help kids in need with back to school needs. “Soles for Souls” is a CommUNITY Back to School Shoe Distribution project. Partnering with Samaritan’s Feet, the event was Saturday.

Aug. 9: Advice Worth Following

Today’s sermon title by Dr. Steve Ayers is “Advice Worth Following.”  The New Testament scriptures come from Ephesians 4:25 – 5:2. The Rev. Paul Haywood will lead Children’s Time at the 10:45 service. The Sanctuary Choir will perform the morning anthem I’ll Live for Him Who Died for Me.

Bruce Arrowood is the Deacon of the Week. He will read the Old Testament scriptures Psalm 34:1-8 and lead the morning prayer.

The flowers at the alter today are given in loving memory of Nancy Jordan by her daughter, Julie, and her husband, Conrad, and their sons, Jordan and Taylor.

Meetings

The McGill Deacons will meet today (Aug. 8) at 2 p.m.

The Church Council will meet on Monday, Aug. 10, at 7 p.m.

The J.O.Y. Club meets on Thursday, Aug. 13, at 11 a.m. Lunch will be provided. Come enjoy the fellowship.
